On 5 November 2025, the MAST consortium hosted the international MAST webinar, bringing together participants from Slovenia, Greece, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Tourism professionals and SME representatives joined the session to explore how the MAST Sustainability Protocol and Online Self-Assessment Tool can support greener, smarter, and more people-centred tourism across the Mediterranean.
The MAST Self-Assessment Tool offers an innovative and user-friendly way for accommodation SMEs to take real steps toward sustainability and long-term competitiveness. Grounded in the internationally recognized ISO 21401:2018 standard, the tool provides a credible, expert-based foundation — going beyond generic online checklists to deliver practical and meaningful results.
Developed collaboratively by universities, industry experts, and tourism professionals from five Mediterranean countries, the tool was co-created with SMEs to reflect their real needs and challenges. It provides personalized insights and improvement pathways, helping businesses understand their current sustainability performance and plan their next steps.
The tool works hand-in-hand with the MAST Sustainability Protocol, offering clear and actionable guidance that aligns with ISO requirements. Instead of broad recommendations, SMEs receive concrete, step-by-step support to make sustainability improvements both achievable and measurable.
What makes MAST unique is its holistic approach — combining environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability, while also addressing aspects such as cultural heritage, community engagement, and resource efficiency.
More than just a tool, MAST represents a wider ecosystem of support, including training, capacity-building, and a growing Mediterranean network of tourism actors. Together, these initiatives aim to help SMEs not only assess their sustainability performance, but also learn, connect, and thrive.
By turning sustainability from a distant goal into a practical and empowering process, MAST helps build a tourism sector that is more resilient, responsible, and future-ready.
Let’s make sustainable tourism possible — together.
