Our story

As the accommodation industry becomes increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability for long-term success, our project aims to support stakeholders in meeting rising demands for socially, economically, and environmentally responsible practices. Our sustainability protocol and self-assessment tool, aligned with the ISO 21401:2018 standard, identify best practices covering environmental, social, and economic dimensions. By facilitating continuous improvement, we strive to promote the adoption of sustainable management systems that benefit stakeholders and reduce environmental impact, ensuring the well-being and empowerment of tourism stakeholders for generations to come. Our project supports the EU Green Deal by focusing on key areas such as ambitious climate targets, clean energy supply, circular economy practices, and ecosystem preservation. Through our study based on ISO 21401:2018, we’re developing tailored solutions to help SME accommodations transition to sustainable tourism practices. The transnational approach to cooperation will certainly bring benefits to the participating SMEs through a series of project activities that will lead to their gradual empowerment and capacity building in sustainability.   Through our project, we address several challenges and opportunities: By providing tailored solutions and facilitating cooperation among SMEs, we empower them to implement sustainable management systems despite resource constraints. This helps build their capacity to enhance sustainability and encourages the adoption of similar practices across Europe. Leveraging the expertise of academic and research institutions within our consortium, we promote collaboration between knowledge institutions and businesses. This collaboration stimulates sustainability within the travel industry.

Meet our partners

Through collaborative efforts among its transnational partners, the MAST project will define and implement a unified strategy for sustainable tourism solutions. This approach addresses socio-economic disparities within the consortium, aligning with the goals of the Territorial Agenda 2030 to promote integrated development across borders. By developing a common sustainable tourism strategy tailored to the unique national contexts of each partner country, MAST will effectively tackle global social and environmental challenges while enhancing the competitiveness of involved nations.

Moreover, by adapting strategic solutions to local contexts, the project will foster collaboration between local public institutions and SMEs in the accommodation sector. This collaborative framework aims to rebalance socio-economic disparities among partner countries, laying the groundwork for more equitable growth. In alignment with the Territorial Agenda’s vision of a Balanced Europe, MAST will contribute to regional development by reducing disparities and promoting sustainable practices that respect cultural and environmental heritage.
